- Folklore My home district is situated at the foot of a hill. It is in the Parish of Tiorara, and the name of the townland is Jamestown. It is in the barony of Athlone. There are twenty houses in my townland, four slated ones and sixteen thatched ones. There are a hundred people in my townland. There are six people over seventy years. Their names are as follows :- Mrs. Kilroy, Mrs. Slymon, Mrs. Burke, Mrs Fallon, Mr Thomas Mulry, Mr. James Burke ,They all have the same address:-
Jamestown,
Ballyforan,
Ballinasloe.The most common name is Burke. It is not exactly known how the townland got its name, but it is supposed that the land owner of the place had a son called James and he gave him this village as a(continues on next page)- Collector
