He was known around this district as "Johnny Tom". He is buried in South Kilmurry. His mother's people were very intelligent, his uncle Terence Golden being a Latin teacher one time in Macroom. He was a farmer and able to read and write. While he milked the cows he composed songs. The principal subjects for his songs were his neighbours and his townland. This peot made all his songs in English. His best songs were. "The Film Laddy "Bold Tady Quill" "The Tacklie í Oney" and Paddy's Possessions.
