- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Three meals a day was the usual diet and the morning's work was done before the breakfast was eaten. The dinner which consisted of potatoes, fish and sour milk was eaten about three o'clock and the supper was eaten after nightfall. Usually the supper consisted of boiled meal or wheat which was allowed to cool in earthen-ware basins. When a "meaceal" was for supper the table was placed outside the door Meat was scarce but fish was plentiful and it was stored in barrels. It was a great feast when an egg was eaten on Easter Sunday morning, and sometimes an egg was eaten on Christmas day, but on no other occasion were eggs eaten.
