  1. (continued from previous page)
Silks and satins put out the kitchen fire. Wide will wear, but tight will tear. Strike the drone while it is hot. Inquisitive people are never made wise. Many hands make light work. The longest way round is the shortest way home. Birds of one feather flock together. A lie has no legs, but too much of a head. Make hay while the sun shines. Better sure than sorry. There is some little smoke to every fire. The best of men make mistakes. Old people are very fond of saying "The best of them are no great things when describing som person they do not like. Better to lie down hungry than to rise in debt. Need give up trying. A wise man eats to live. Bread that has been eaten is soon forgotton. No fear of failing when courage is near at hand. Tell one lie and you will tell a dozen to cover it. All a chip off one block. Enough is as good as any feast day.
