- A common local cure for a burn was an application of soap and soda and the glare[?] of an egg when the would was fresh.
Another remedy was to apply flour and soda.
For a toothache, the hole was filled with tobacco and often the gum was rubbed with the juice of cloves.
A local cure for bleeding from the nose was putting a piece of silver between the teeth.
Often also a cold instrument was placed at the back of the neck, between the shoulders to help to stop the bleeding.
Boils were usually treated by poulticing with linseed meal.
