Some years ago, the following coins were in use, the 10d piece, the 4d bit, and the 4 shilling piece.The crown or 5 shillings piece is still to be seen but is getting rare.
At the present day "labourers" get [prequisites?] in lieu of work, such as a free house, free garden, ie potato garden, "firing", furze or coal, and the cleaning of sides of fences for litter with the use of a house for some days.
Many years ago labouring men, ie farm labourers kept an account of the days they worked by placing or cutting a notch on a straight bit of stick for every day they worked. This stick was called "A Score Stick".
Some years ago most married labouring men ie farm labourers always kept a few pigs to fatten, in order to have manure for the garden. It was usual to see the labourers wife pulling [ca???patián] which they fed to the pigs as well as meal and potatoes.
