  1. The site of this Castle is marked on the O.S. map. It was built on a foundation of solid rocks those rocks are huge jutting above the ground. The Castle was one of the residences of the O'Keeffe clan and two miles west of their chief one at Dromagh.
    In the Cromwellian war Hugh O'Keeffe was owner of Dromagh Castle. He was a firm adherent of the Duke of Ormond and an opponent of the Papal Nuncio Rinucinni. When the Nuncio journeyed to Kilkenny he was entertained by the McCarties at Drishane but on crossing at the ford at Dronsicane he was attacked by the O'Keeffe clan who were in Dromsicane Castle. (The Bóen). For some reason this Hugh O'Keeffe got the name "Paschalis". In some engagement he was taken prisoner by Moriertagh O'Brien a supporter of the Nuncio and passed his word not to escape privately. One morning rising up suddenly in his bed he said "Gentlemen, I give you notice I'm off" and jumping out of the window he escaped—pretending that he had not broken his word as he had given notice of his escape.
