- In the nineteenth century the great Atlantic was crossed by the first steamship named the "Sirius". After he had crossed the Atlantic he was transferred to another ship which was not very safe. He succeeded in crossing but on his return home he was caught in a gale and Captain Roberts and his crew were drowned. In Passage grave yard a monument erected in remembrance of him. The Forgotten Poet of Passage named Kearney seeing the monument wrote a poem about Captain Roberts.
"I gazed upon the monumental stone,
A sad memorial by affection raised
An humble tribute justly due to one
By all who knew him loved revered, and praised,
And as I gazed and thought how deep how well
He was lamented (Line missing), slowly at my feet.
