- People in olden times used not eat as often as the people do now. They used to eat only three meals every day.
The first was taken very early in the morning. It was the custom at that time for people to rise early and work before breakfast. This was taken generally at eight or nine o'clock in the morning. The breakfast of the ordinary worker consisted of boiled meal called stirabout often potatoes and skim milk. Dinner was from [?]1 to 2 consisting of potatoes, milk, fish and seldom meat. Supper was taken after work which was a very late hour, and again they would have potatoes and milk or stirabout. The table was situated in the middle of the floor around which all the house - hold used to sit and partake of their meals.
