- There are potatoes growing on our farm. There is over an acre of land sown under potatoes. Some years the potatoes are better than other years.
My brother prepares the ground before the potatoes are sown. The ground is manured before it is ploughed. This is called top-dressing. The potatoes are sown in drills. The drills are made with a plough.
The drills are made with a plough. Wooden ploughs were used long ago when the people had no iron to make them, but there are not many left now, because they can be made with iron.
The farmers do not make the spades locally, but they buy them in a hardware shop. Before the potatoes are sown in the drills, they are cut into pieces, and also some of them are put sprouting in boxes.
Sometimes the people help one another in sowing the potatoes. They help in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
