The Danes were also supposed to make beautiful wines from herbs, but they never gave the secret of how to make those wines to the Irish people. Many stories are told about people who tried to get this pot of gold. A few men went into the caves in Carrignashina with lanterns, and ropes around their waists while their comrades outside held the ropes which enabled them to go a certain distance underground, and if they were not returning or lost their way by any means they could be dragged out by the ropes.
The old inhabitants of the district relate many stories about this cave. One day a woman went to dig potatoes for her dinner. Just as she was leaving down her spade thinking she had quite enough dug, five or six very small men with cone shaped red hats picked off the potatoes like a flash of lightning and ran back into the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
