- Local Roads. This district is easily travelled, as there are many roads through it. To the peoples knowledge the oldest road in the district is the Bog line, which was built more than one hundred years ago, in order to give relief work to the people. Other old roads are the two which cross each other beside Shanagolden church. One of those runs in a north to south direction, and leads from Robertstown to NewcastleWest. The other goes from east to west, passes through Shanagolden village, and leads from Foynes to Rathkeale. The portion of the latter road from Shanagolden to Foynes is still called the 'Old Road'. At one time those two roads were the main highway of the district. The present main road through the district is that leading from Foynes to Newcastle West and is now tarred and steamrolled. It is much wider and takes a much more level course than the two mentioned(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
