    There were traditional legends connected with the process. Some believed that people were deprived of their produce by supernatural means. A visitor to a dairy while churning operations were on should take a "dhreas" or turn at the handle or would be suspected of practising some direful artiifice for commandeering the produce for themselves.
    The advent of the Creamery has almost abolished these superstitions. Left is a sketch of the old time distaff churn.
