  1. Long ago hurling and football matches were very common in this district. The hurlers were much more famous then than they are now.
    The matches were usually held between townlands. They ussally used a leather ball call a slitter but it was much rougher than the slitter of the present day. Goal posts were not often used coloured flags were more common.
    The ball was often kicked across the country from one townsland to another. Handball was also very common in olden times.
