  1. Local Superstitions
    A black cat in a house is supposed to bring good luck into it.
    If a young person is struck with an alder[?] stick it is said that he or she will not grow another inch.
    The kitchen floor must be swept very well before people go to bed, so that the “good people” will not be angry.
    If a person stands under an open umbrella in a house, it is said that he or she will have some illness in the near future.
    One magpie - sign of ill luck
    Two “[magpies] “[sign of] good luck.
    “One for sorrow
    Two for mirth
    Three for a marriage,
    Four for a birth
    Fiver for silver
    Six for gold
    Seven for a tale that can’t be told [”]
    Two spoons on your sauce, means two husbands (or wives).
    To wed a red haired woman in the morning - ill luck.
