would give you plenty of potatoes, bacon, and cabbage. "Split the Wind" goes around with a bundle of ashplants tied to his shoulder and a bag of potatoes on his back. He is very cross and all the children fear him. "Louise Christie" is a small man, who carries a stick and has a very bearded face. He is also very cross and at every house he calls to he says "a halfpenny for the poor man" and if he does not get it he walks away muttering.
