- I) The treasure is supposed to be hidden in a deep trench running by the side of Loughgur bog. The place is covered with reeds, and the Black Castle is situated about fifty yards from it, on the hill of Knockadoon. It is believed to be placed there by the Fir-Bolgs because they wanted to keep it safe from thievesII No attempts have been made to unearth it because the place is surrounded with water. The treasure which is hidden there is is supposed to consist of a number of bronze weapons such as shields spears, ancient pans and other objects. The supposed value of these ancient relics would amount to several hundred pounds.III On one occasion a man named Nicholas Hayes, living in the neighbourhood of Loughgur was out fowling.
