There are many old customs and piseogs connected with marriages. Country people adhere to these superstitions even in our own day. Marriages usually take place during Shrove, immediately before Advent or in June. It is considered unlucky to get married in May - being a fairy month or in August or September being the harvest months. They say "What is bound in the harvest is loosed in the Winter"Days.
Certain days of the week are also considered unlucky.
"Monday for wealth,
Tuesday for health,
Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for losses,
Friday for crosses,
Saturday no day at all".
Consequently most people get married on Wednesday.
