   Jogglers and butter prints, on which he carved designs. He "turned" stool - and chair - seats, rails and table-legs and every type of wood turnery which is now produced with the latest type of machinery. The tools used by Mr. Loftus were made in the local forge, but were tempered and ground by Mr. Loftus himself.
   Sycamore was the wood usually used by Mr. Loftus for "turning" but sometimes he used horse-chestnut which finished well. Beech was seldom used because of its hardness and difficulty in working. The Beech vessels were boiled and allowed to dry before being finished. Mr. Loftus' sons used to cut the timber for making the wares, but they never learned the trade or took any interest in it. Mrs Loftus used to help her husband when the children were young to cut the timber and she also worked the pole lathe for her husband. Mr. Loftus sold his wares at fairs and he also had a contract with firms in Dublin, Cork and Galway. He made some candlesticks
