- The most common farm and domestic animals in my district are cows, horses, donkeys, pigs, calves, sheep, goats and cats and dogs. The cows are distinguished mostly from one another by their colour.
"How-up" is said when the cows are being driven in and out of the field and the same to the calves. The cow-houses are slated with concrete floors and usually spacious. The cows are tied or bailed with chains which are hooked to a wooden beam which runs the length of the cow-house.
The hay for the cows is put into the mangers underneath the beam.
Horses are put in a stable which is divided into partitions for each horse. There are holes in the stable walls for air for the horses. The horses are foddered everyday and clipped once a year with a machine.
