- There is a castle in Tombricane built by the Danes in olden times. There was a battle fought there by Cromwell's soldiers. On the twelfth of July, during the penal times, the Protestants marched in a procession and the leaders wore long trailing coats and called out the papists to walk on their coats. The Catholics did come out and fought them all, and that finished the procession. The Catholics then hid in the laurels near a house called Hobb's. Cromwell's army marched through Borrisokane and evicted all the catholics, and put protestants in their places.I, Maureen O'Donohue, Bushy Park, Borrisokane got this from my father, John O'Donohue, Bushy Park, Borrisokane, Co.
