  1. About 70 years ago the lands of Ballyclohey, some two miles from Limerick station, were the source of much agrarian trouble. The inhabitants were the descentants of old respectible tenants who had honestly by the sweat of their brows, paid their rents regularly. The lands about this time were purchased by William Scully - A Catholic land lord, a harsh cruel land lord with no sense of justice. The tenants of Ballycohy knew their man and paid their rent up to date. Scully however, had idead of his own, and he demanded that the tenants should pay him a half year's rent in advance and he also drew up a new lease for his tenants. He ordered that all his tenants should meet him at Dobby's Hotel in Tipperary as he was anxious that they would sign the new leases to their land. The tenants knew with what he wanted and accordingly they sent the rent with their wives or sons and did not appear in person
