- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)in the room. The women then collect in and pray at the bedside and then sit down and chat with one another. They are brought a treat by some member of the family or other person appointed to that care. Tea also is made and mutton and beef are boiled and soup and a feed given to persons who come a distance or who are helping at the wake. The women in the corpse room remain for an hour or two and then others come and take their places and so on until the night time. Snuff is sometimes given out at wakes and some years ago clay pipes and tobacco were given round but that custom has now died out.
A great crowd of men collected there at night fall for the wake and remain all night chatting and talking an telling stories. Drink is given round several times during the night. The Rosary is recited at mid-night. Sometimes when the kitchen is small the people collect in one of the outhouses and remain there for a few hours.
