We have a churn,it is a barrel churn .This is supported on a stand on which the axles of the churn revolve,by the aid of one or two persons ,while the butter is being made.The churn is two feet ten inches in height ,two feet at the centre and one foot nine inches at either end..The height of the churn and stand together is four feet one inch.Inside the churn there are two dashes or beaters which help beat up the cream and convert it into butter.There is a circular door about six inches in diameter ,there is also a small opening with a stopper ,which is used for ventilation while the butter is being made and for drawing off the butter milk afterwards.There is a handle on each end attached to the axles .
The churn is made about twenty five years.
Butter is made only once a week nowadays as it is generally sold at the fresh butter markets(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
