   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)

   The careful sower filling up the ridge;

   Or to his home returns the shepherd swain,

   Driving his flock along the spangled plain,

   And here are heard the crash of falling oak,

   Felled by the rustic woodsman's sturdy stroke;

   The whispering murmur of the purling rill

   That steals, meandering, by the rocky hill;

   The chirping songsters and the humming bees,

   The foliage rustling in the dying breeze,

   The mimic echo mocking ev'ry sigh

   The fowler's shot, the huntsman's distant cry;

   The noisy bleating of the harmless sheep,

   The torrent rolling down the craggy steep,

   The chattering magpie rising on the wing

   And cuckoo, herald of the dewy spring.

   Flow oft within those solitary shades,

   Those waving groves and ever verdant glades,

   Delighted did I stray - in transport view

   That lovely landscape bounteous nature drew

   Whose mansion, bowers, beauties all combined

   Are emblems of the owner's mind.

   Farewell, my Birthplace, - west in Erin's isle

   May sweet content o'er all thy meadows smile;

   "For wert thou on the rugged mountain brow

   "Near some rude rock where foaming torrents flow,

   "Or wert thou on the wild sea-beaten shore
