- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the rich man in Lorcan's honour. Great was the respect paid to him by father and daughter.
The tall Spanish girl fell in love with her visitor. She was seven feet in height just three inches less than Lorcan.
She told him her father's people were of royal descent; and her mother was a descendant of the O'Donnells of Ireland who came to Spain. Lorcan also boasted that he was an Irish Chieftain.
Lorcan asked Kathleen to marry him and she consented. Her father objected as his daughter was already engaged to a Spanish Chief. But the lovers stole away from home and were married.
The lady was delighted with the view from Carlingford Lough, and Lorcan sang to her the following verses:
Carlingford, the home of Quays,
You can see her abbeys high,
John's mighty castle on the rocks,
Both storm and waves defy.
And look towards the right; Rostrevor sleeps alone
And we see upon the hill above,
