- Potatoes are grown on our farm.
About six acres is sown under potatoes each year.
Some years, especially of late we had ten acres.
The men who work on the farm prepare the ground.
The ground is manured before turned up.
The potatoes are sown in drills.
They are from twenty six to twenty eight inches apart, and about nine inches wide.
An iron plough is used for preparing the drills.
Wooden ploughs were used on our farm.
There were a few left but of late we did away with them.
The spades are bought in the shop.
The seed must be cut, and there must be an eye on every seed. Then the farmyard and artifical manure are put in the drills, then the potatoes are dropped from ten to twelve inches apart.
