Priests. At Dunmahon also there is a Mass rock.
There was a man the name of Forbes who had a band of priest-hunters going around looking for priests. Every time they would catch a priest they would have a great feast. As the story goes it was a fortnight since they got the last priest.
They all got together, and they knew that a woman was buried a few days before that, they began to make up their minds to lift her, and cut her head off. The brought it to him, and he said it was more like a woman's head than a priest's. They said not so that is was the head of a very old bishop, and he replied, "Better, and better again."
Priests did say Mass in the houses.
Houses were built in secret places in which Mass was said, but I do not know what name was given to them.
