When the churning is beginning it is an old custom to put a pinch of salt on the churn and make the sign of the cross. When the churning is done the butter is gathered by the dash & lifted into the butter dish with a skimmer. - Our churn is about three feet high It is about twenty years old. The make of our churn is a "Daisy" and it holds 14 gallons of milk.
Our churn is on a stand, and you can work it by hand or by foot
