- Round about Dunleer there are not many mounds or forts, but there is one near the school and it is called the "Moat Field".
Once upon a time two girls who lived opposite this fort said they would like to hear the music of the fairies played at night so they decided to go into it.
They went across many fields from the fort and they found a passway going into it. They got on up the passway until they came as far as the river, which was at the bottom of the fort, they were unable to go any further.
This is the only fort in Dunleer.
