- When a marriage took place in this neighbourhood the married couple invited their neighbours to the wedding feast. In olden days it was the custom to get married on a Sunday, but then it changed to Wednesday and now it is on Saturday. An old rhyme says,
"Monday for wealth
Tuesday for health
Wednesday the best day of all
Thursday for losses
Friday for crosses
Saturday no day at all."
It was also deemed lucky if you borrowed something from a neighbour. Another old rhyme says:
"Something old and something new,
Something borrowed and something blue."
