- The local mill is situated on the banks of the River Boyne near the village of Bective and a short distance from Bective Abbey. It is know as "Bective Sawmills".
It is owned by a local farmer named Mr. Smyth. He buys a lot of timber through the district and his workmen cut it down and bring it to the mill in carts.
It is cut into boards and paling posts by means of the big saw. He has a circular saw for cutting out the makings of carts, making of wheelbarrows, cart-wheels, hurling sticks, etc.
The mill is worked by means of a large wheel situated in a little river running from the Boyne called the Mill Race.
On Saturdays they grind wheat into wheaten meal and they crush oats for the local farmers.- Bailitheoir
