- Olliver Cromwell came into Co Meath from Droheda. He came on to Navan from Droheda and came out the Cannistown road from Navan. The soldiers had to pave the hills with stones to keep the cannons, which the horses were pulling, from sinking. The roads were very soft and dirty. He came on to Bective through Bective avenue, the avenue was then a public road. He went up the road to Scurloghstown from Bective. Cromwell met the Irish soldiers coming from Trim at a hill and he drove the Irish back. After some years the hill was been dug up and they found many human bones. It was called Cromwell's hill.
