- Long ago there were not many shops in the country districts and the people had to travel to the nearest town to buy the necessary goods for the coming week.After Mass on Sunday the people did some shopping in the shops and there they bought tea and sugar and other things for the house during the week. Money was not very plentiful and therefore the people had to barter the goods. That is : - one sort of goods was exchanged for another sort of goods. In olden days the labourers were paid for their labour by being given oaten meal and potatoes It was also the custom to "truck"(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
