- I have been informed by good authority, that the same travelling folk have visited this locality for the past hundred years. Some of them are poor and go around begging but others are rich and buy their daily wants. They go around selling small articles, such as delph, looking glasses, toilet and scrubbing brushes, safety pins, vases, lace (?) and several other articles. They exchange articles for meal, potatoes and flour.They generally obtain their supplies in Dublin, in cheap houses, such as supply bazaars with cheap classes of goods. Long ago, there was great welcome for these travellers, because they brought the news from distant parts. Supposing a traveller visited a house in this locality the news would be quickly spread around and that afternoon the people would gather around the traveller and listen to him telling stories and news. In the district now this custom is fading away. They remain for a week in this locality and sleep in their covered(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
