The population of this district was very large around the time of the famine. There were eight houses from the corner of Barry to "Acarana 'boreen' which is a distance of a quarter of a mile. There are only three of them standing now.
The following places are still pointed out. "Toome Crossroads" and "Burke's Crossroads.
Toome Crossroad's got its name from the number of people which were buried in it around the time of the famine.
Burke's Crossroad's got its name from an old ancient family which resided at this crossroads and were wiped out around the time of the famine.
The potatoes rotted in the ground. Some people dug out the potatoes which they thought to be good they were red rotten.
