    in a previous story, he felt as if a half hundred weight was attached to each of his legs, from there until he reached home, one mile distant.
    As you can see now, a more appropriate name for this story would be "Mocking is catching".
    The something he saw was a black mass about the size of a large sow sometimes, and at other times about the size of a pom dog. He could see no feet or legs on it. But he could not know why it was of a different size every time he looked it.
    It accompanied him from the graveyard corner, up Pat McCabe's Hill in Lemoy and down the hill on the other side, passed the famous Swallow-Hole to the laneway mentioned. The total distance would be about a quarter of a mile.
    William McGoldrick himself told this story to James Dooris, of the townland of Leitrim and parish of Clongesh who related it to me.
