- Fairs were held in this district, in the townland of Dunbeggan. The fair green and pound were held by the OFarrells. It is not known locally, if any tolls were charged in those days. It is a well known fact, that cattle, pigs and sheep were bought and sold here, and that three special horse fairs were held annually. The place, at one time, was a thriving little town, having a Roman Catholic Church, Tobacconist's Shop and a Shoemaker's shop. A flat ledge of rock is still pointed out by old people as the "tobacco rock", where tobacco was sold on fair days. It is still called the "tobacco rock". These places are on the Aughakine side of the bridge, which then spanned the river, and are still to be seen there.
