    He led another famous attack on a British convoy at Clonfin between Ballinalee and Granard in 1921, inflicting severe casualties and taking away a quantity of surrendered arms and ammunition. He gained universal praise for the manner in which he treated the wounded prisoners on this occasion.
    He was later arrested at Mullingar and was shot by his captors when making a dash for his liberty.
    He was elected a TD during his imprisonment. He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was not carried out, and after the truce he was released. He was a native of Columbcille and a blacksmith by trade.
