    All the long day and night his wife prayed for the success of the Irish and many a glance she cast that she might see his manly form framed in the door. No news of the battle reached her. In the calm of the Autumn midnight she heard the steady trot of a horse coming into the yard. But the horse was without a rider. Then she knew that Pat O Farrell had taken his place among the martyred list of Ireland's dead.
