His father lived in the modern Rathcline House occupied what was locally known as Rathcline Demesne being landlord of practically the entire parish as well. By the way a descendant of this family still carries the title Lord Annally.

On the fatal day he left the "Lodge with his favourite dog Wing.
Just as he emerged a pigeon rose from the lawn. He took aim, raised the trigger of the gun but the bird appeared to vanish completely from his sight. "Where has she vanished to" he asked his companion who saw her wing her way to the neighbouring woods.
