Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Like most other places in Ireland, Aclare has many old cures, which the people believe in. The following are some of them :-
    A ruptured child is supposed to be cured if it is passed three times through the pole of an ash tree.
    A child with whooping cough is supposed to be cured if it is passed three times under a jack-ass.
    The soft bark of the alder is said to cure warts. There are also several wells here, the water of which is believed to cure warts also.
    Another cure for warts is :- For every wart take a small stone. Rub it on the wart it represents and then bury it. The wart is supposed to disappear in nine days.
    Elm sap cures burns and scalds.
    Boiled furze blossoms, and the juice strained is a cure for cramps, and internal pains.
    Rib-leaf is used to bind up a cut. It stops bleeding. Cobweb tied
