Whilst the battle was going on at the "Fort" the bands from Tintern, Campile and Ross played to encourage the defenders and every fresh missile that came out of the "F"ort was hailed with a beat of the drums and deafening cheers.
All the defenders of "Foley's Fort" are dead now. The following are the names of some of them :
Larry Foley, owner of the house and lands. Dan Shannon, Ballybrazil, Jim Ryan, Paddy Cummins, Ballyhack.
Fr. O Sullivan now deceased who was curate in Ballykelly at the time walked up and down outside the "Fort" all day praying.
