   but there are no local accounts as to when they were. The old people will tell that the men that were employed in making these roads only got three or four pence a day whilst now they are getting thirty shillings or two pounds a week for repairing them, but of course the cost of living has greatly increased since those days

   In former times there was a byway in Miss Moran's field which used to lead to Mrs Maddock's house but now it is covered with briars and the house is in complete ruins.

   There is another byeways leading from Blackhall to Whitechurch.

   In former times it was a custom for the young people to dance at every cross-road. But now they play skittles tossing, horse-shoe and sometimes play caras, but those customs are dying
