   The local idea is that this was an old pagan burial place, but until the discovery above mentioned there was never any local tradition of its existence. The only thing that did fit in with this discovery was a universal belief of the district that it was a "bad spot at night" and that it was surely haunted. Weird noises & unearthly cries were heard by the residents of the district. These noises were said to resemble nothing so much as the tramp of men and the clatter of horses feet.
