So the fairyman told him to go to a certain field in Raheen at 12.00 o'clock in the night, and at a gap in the ditch stick a white-handled knife at one side of the gap and a white-handled fork at the other side and wait for a short time and Catherine would come along seated behind a man riding a white horse. The fairy-man told Matty to seize her at the moment when the horse was going through the gap. But if he opened his mouth until he was one mile outside Waterford on his way home, she would not come at all.
Matty started off, but when he went out on the road there was Tommy waiting for the news and Matty could not speak or he would break his promise. Tommy thought Matty was struck dumb until they(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
