    the pith came out. It cut the paper out of the ends and made a bang.
    They also made buzzers. This is the way they made them They got a bit of tin or wood and cut it circular.Then they got a nail and made two holes in the centre to put a cord in and their buzzers were made.
    The children also made magic lanterns. This was made from a big turnip. They cut off the top and scooped the middle out with a spoon. They left a piece of the turnip in the bottom to hold the candle. Then two holes were cut in the side to put a cord through and their lantern was made.
