  1. Nuggus-duff is the name of this downland. One half of it is in Ferbane Parish and the other half is in Cloghan and it is the Barony of Garrycastle.
    There are about twelve families living in Noggus-duff, and fifty people.
    The Grand Canal Stores, presently occupied by Mr. Corcoran was the scene of many a sad parting in bye-gone days, from this bridge hundreds left for America on a boat called The Fly Packet, which was run to Dublin. It was drawn by three fast horses, which were changed at various stations. This was the time when there was no railway in forbade.
    Most of the houses are thatched.
    There is a small stream called The Tunnel.
