The most common churn to be found in my district is the tumbling churn. We churn twice a week. When the butter is on the top of the butter milk it is churned. The churn the had about fifty or sixty years ago was the dash churn. Before churning half a pint of boiling water is put into the churn so that is will not be long churning. The milk that is left after churning is used for making bread. If any neighbours come in and churning going on they will give a hand to churn it.
