- Every farmer grows potatoes every year. An acre is usually grown on the farm and this amount never varies. The bangort employees prepare the ground and sow the seed.
The ground is not manured until the drills are opened. The potatoes are sown in drills. These are opened with a doubled mould-board plough and are also closed with it too. A spade is used to close the end of the drills where the horses turn. Wooden ploughs have not been used in this district.
Spades are not made locally but bought in shops. A local spade i like this.
During the summer the potatoes are grubbed and sprayed. We dig the potatoes with a plough while two or three men follow the plough and pick the potatoes into basket.- Bailitheoir
